Week 3 - heading home soon

What a journey this has been. 10 months ago I feel like I set out on an expedition with no idea where it would lead. I've learned about all sorts of "alternative" treatments used for cancer and other ailments. I've implemented different protocols.  I've read books and magazines and studies I can find to help validate or debunk what I am learning. Then I landed here at OHI, Optimum Health Institute, for 3 very full weeks of learning some very different ways of living. Fascinating! It comes out of work by Ann Wigmore, "The mother of raw eating and the use of wheatgrass for healing." I read her riveting autobiography and I have met some people who knew her. She was passionate about bringing health and healing back to people as a Christian ministry. Her life was dedicated to showing people why their vitality was wasting away as they ate what was becoming the norm after the industrial revolution. So often I think food has just become degraded since the ta...

Week 2 at OHI

Hi There. Week 1 at OHI is very focused on physical detox and education about health. I've learned a ton. I came here pretty confused. I work with a doctor who believes in the Ketogenic diet to fight cancer and I have friends working with another very famous and successful diet who believes it too. But I see testimonial after testimonial that says raw vegan is the best healing modality. It is powerful to see people who have kicked cancer to the curb 5-10-20 years ago by going raw vegan for at least a period of time, and then making sure to center their lives on whole plant foods to stay well, even if it's not as strict as raw vegan. I am definitely going to be sprouting and eating live sprouts throughout my days from now on. There really isn't a way to get live food without growing it yourself or living next to an organic farm and buying it recently harvested and sprouts are easy! I may offer sprouting lessons from home because I am feeling so passionate about that. It ...

Days 2 - 4 at OHI

1/8 – 1/10/18 This is really an interesting place. People from every single walk of life are here; I think that is true because it is so reasonably priced yet completely unique. I hit a wall a couple of months back and just cannot spend money on exorbitantly priced treatments; I feel like people are preying on cancer patients’ desperation. It was like a switch flipped in my head and I knew I needed to take full responsibility for my healing, which does not entail sitting in a lounge chair taking in overpriced IVs as well as other treatments that may or may not work. I am implementing other options but they are challenging: Cannabis (I make my own suppositories), Hoxsey tonic from Mexico, coming to this place to learn raw vegan eating, working with an herbalist, enemas and saunas and baths for detox, tons of supplements, extensive psychotherapy of different types, learning to meditate and control my thoughts, spending ample time with God and in his Word… These are all things I can ...

Day 1 at OHI

A quote has really stuck with me during this whole thing: "What we put in our bodies can either heal us quickly, or poison us slowly." It's true, isn't it? If dead food killed us quickly, we wouldn't eat it. But it is killing us slowly; "But it is so convenient and yummy - and it's our lifestyle!" As for the food healing people quickly - it's true and it's my time to put it to the test. For 7+ months I did pretty good with learning and implementing the Ketogenic Diet until I went more for the plant based diet with lots of juicing. I at least stayed off gluten and the musts of the Hoxsey Protocol: no alcohol, pork, vinegar, tomatos. Then the holidays hit and I spent a month on a very slippery slide, until I crashed at the bottom of the slide with a pulled pork sandwich in my hand and a few glasses of wine ingested over the past week. I completely collapsed in anticipation of quite possibly the biggest life style change I've ever undertak...
