Encouragement From "My Suze"

Text from Susie...

If I could write one thing on your blog, Cath, it would be……also so you remember…..

I was out there a month ago, taking care of my best friend. What a privilege it was to be there with her for a week and have Andy trust me to take great care of her. We had time to laugh and talk, I was there to take care of her, love her, it was nerve-racking and scary at the same time, she was so weak, and so frail.

For breakfast, I might be able to get her to eat one scrambled egg and two strawberries before she had to take her medicine. Lunch might be a couple scoops of cottage cheese with a half a banana. Very little food, very little energy.

She could walk about 20 feet. From a chair she would sit in to the kitchen door where her wheelchair was. I’d push her through the halls to get in the car. And then when we got to the hospital, I'd push her from the car down the long hallway, two long hallways to her doctor's office.

Today was the first time I talked to her since I left Denver, I asked her how are you doing? She said good. I said what does good mean - how far can you walk?

Suz I’m not using the wheelchair at all. I can make it from the car all the way to the doctors office. Andy and I went to Trader Joe’s and I walked through the store. I’m still weak. I need a lot of sleep. But I’m doing good.  Her voice sounded like the old Cath. It sounded great, and it sounded strong.

Oh how my heart was filled with joy and happiness. In just 30 short days, she’s come so far. Thank you Lord. Where will she be in the next 30 days? I love you pal. You’re doing great.

Susie and I met when our kids were small and it made all the difference that we had each other right next door and always in each other's camps. We love each other's kids and know each others' families. We have grown up in faith together; I thank God for her and our relationship!

Thanks for the encouragement Suze and for always being there for me!

We were young and smile-y in the ER; this is a time a very long time ago
when she needed a little TLC.

We've grown up in our faith together.

From Church, Bible studies, Harvest Crusades, Retreats, Mission Trips,

and most recently through the BEMA podcast - She often reminds me to "Trust the Story."
