True North Day 24

Day 24
True North

I forgot to post this last night. We had a couple friends over to play cards. Happy New Year!!!

We are watching a video right now called Eating. We were both moving toward allowing ourselves about 5% of our diet in animal products, since most healthy populations eat less than 5% animal proteins in their diets. The research on reversing or stalling disease really doesn't support it. I'm going back to none-until I'm healed at least. It's a challenge, but I can do it. See Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's work. It's been replicated over and over, but he's the pioneer and has done the longest study in history. He flatly stated that there is not one case of a person reversing coronary heart disease by doing what we all have been told about moderation. Imagine having a heart attack, being told you need heart surgery, but leaving the hospital, changing you diet radically, and stumping the doctors only a few months later. It happens.

This video states that 75% of our early deaths are caused by our diets (lack of eating plant foods, replaced by animal foods). This video talks about how much politics has influenced what we are eating and it isn't good. We are the fattest nation on earth and the sickest. It's sad and scary and only we can change it for ourselves. Our government is controlled by powerful lobbyists who have convinced us of lies of what we need or want.

I know many people who believe deeply in Paleo and Keto. I ran across a set of videos on how to do these diets as vegans. I totally understand how most of us have lost weight on Paleo and Keto and often feel really good on them. What if we got the protein and fat from whole food plants, instead of the animal products? It will hard to feel satiated without grains and starches. Chef AJ (on youtube) really addresses this. We all have to find our own answers, of course.

And, of course...we've got to get more weight baring exercise. That is a big challenge for me when I'm working long hours but...I want to find a way.

I have met so many people here running marathons or at least working and living with vitality in their  80s and even 90. Or I've watched their videos. My own family history is mostly heart disease. (that I know-I don't have any paternal family history). Heart disease didn't exist before the 1900s, when we switched quickly to an animal foods based diet. It seems my best bet is to change - completely; get my hs-crp numbers down, no animal products, tons of vegetables and fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, and legumes, exercise and sunshine - and see what happens. I hope I have exciting things to report in the future - and you too!
